Kitchen remodel update

Well, its been almost over 2 months since we moved in. All things have been unpacked, not opened or thrown away! The kitchen remodel went well and its been well used by Sumati. She pretty much lives there now ;)

Here are some pre/post remodel pics of the kitchen.

We gave away some furniture to Salvation army, got rid of some loose items on craigslist.
We want change the color on the knobs and hinges in the kitchen cabinets.
Thinking about getting a wrought iron finish. Will work on it this weekend.

Hope the weather lets up sometime, so that I can start working in the yard.
I did clean up a patch in the back to plant vegetables. Added compost and let it 'vegitate'.
Threw in a few plants as well - chillies and tomatoes. We'll see how they'll do.

24 hours of home ownership

Its 24 hours since we got the keys now and the pace has increased. The packing seems to be under control. We gotta finish buying the appliance, sink and faucet this weekend and be done with it.

I'll be going over the property tomorrow. Richard is going to be demolishing the kitchen counter top. I'll gonna go and drop off some fragile pictures that we have. Dont want to take a chance with the movers.

The packing continues...Move date Jan 20th friday 2-4 pm. TI moving is the one who'll take care of it.(timoving@yahoo.com)

It's all done now 100% - key possession

We went to the property this afternoon and met Kumar at 2pm. Sumathi accepted the keys to "our" house and all other paraphernalia!!

I spit on the ground and told myself "dude, its your joint now, live it and enjoy!".(ofcourse didn't spit in the house, went to the backyard)!

Did one more round of inspection and signed off one last time , for the possession of the house.

Kumar left and we spent another 10-15 mins inside the house, trying to digest this whole predicament that we got ourselves into, after a period of almost 6 months.

definitely the feeling is quite different today.....

A lot of wrist work - Escrow signing today

Just got back from the title company now, after putting my life on the line - signing a few pounds of forms, etc to close the house. Its real for now. Just dropped off a big fat check too. Now there's no backing out ;)

Things are in flight. We got the quotes for the kitchen remodeling. We're using Richard Wong(www.ecsdesign.net), another referral from Kumar and friends. We also set up the termite treatment for Jan 16th(Sunray Termite company - Phil Percy).

Going shopping for the kitchen sink, faucet and the gas appliance.
Home expo, lowes, home depot, sears and western appliance are the ones short(long??)listed by my wife.

The closing happens on Jan 12. Less than a week!!

Our offer just got accepted with a few minor contigencies! Atta boy Vugane I told myself.(of course, I thanked Rishon and Sumati too, for their support !)

Now the dirtier things begin. Loan process completion, termite fumigation quotes and the kitchen remodelling work...

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last offer for the year(and hopefully the LAST)

Today, we went and took at look at the 2 townhomes that Kumar had recommended in Campbell. The first home was totally a bust. It was like a crossword puzzle with rooms inserted here and there between walls ;)

I was almost done with Campbell at that point, before Sumati insisted we take a look at the second home and then I could go lay on my couch and watch football.

We drove to the second home. This home is quite interesting. Its a 26 year old townhome, 1650 sq ft and less than a mile from downtown Campbell. The house although not prepped for a open house, still looked pretty good. Thanks to the good taste of the owner. The house also has a L shaped wrap around back yard with a adolescent tree which is cool!

One wall on the garage had built-in cabinets from the floor to the ceiling.Another cool thing about the house, it has about 150 sq ft of finished attic space on the 2nd level. Good place for Bong night :)

We liked the vibe on the street and in the neighborhood. Its just 12 homes in this community and price seems ok. The HOA is the lower end as well(~$200).

I think we're going for it as well. Tomorrow AM, the offer goes in. We're planning to offer something below list price. Risky? sure. After a while, it stops hurting ;)

Lets see if this home, wishes us a merry Christmas and a new year. Else we'll wish each other ;)

Campbell? Where is that?

Kumar called us today and told us he had found a couple of "townhomes of interest" in campbell and wanted to check if we wanted to take a look. Campbell? Where is that?

He knows that Campbell was something, we never had in our search criteria, but he thinks we might like the floor plan. Since we don't have any other homes to check out this weekend, we'll probably go and take a look at them and see what Campbell is all about.
